Guide To Office Wear For Men

What you wear to work speaks volumes about you to your boss, your peers, and yes, even that special someone you’ve noticed in the office next door! Occasionally introducing some new items to your working wardrobe will give you a chance to express a creative side and keep colleagues guessing, but choosing them wisely is the difference between looking average or looking fantastic. If you would like some office wear tips that will help you to stand out in the crowd in the most positive way then read on for our guide:

Invest. A few key items can make a huge difference to your appearance and, if you shop cleverly they should last too. Invest in a tailored suit; grey is a flexible and flattering colour choice that never goes out of fashion. Also be sure to have at least two well cut blazers and three pairs of good quality trousers. Take a tip from us and avoid coloured trousers – all of these base items should be neutral in colour – you can add personality with a coloured shirt or tie. This year we would also suggest buying a military style jacket. This structured style will make the most of your body and take you from office wear to evening wear for months to come.

Consider your style. It may be best to remember that just because you’re drawn to an item, it doesn’t mean it’s the right choice for you. Bring your style up to date by flicking through a fashion magazine now and again or checking out what’s new on the high street. If you haven’t bought a new suit for a while then the chances are that fashion has moved on! Think about men you know who always look great and consider what it is that makes them stand out. Don’t be afraid to ask for opinions.

Complimentary colours and shades. White shirts go with everything but don’t feel that you can’t introduce some colour into your office wardrobe. Colour can say confidence and sophistication if you get it right. A good tip is that colours which can be found directly opposite one another on the colour wheel are often considered complimentary. Another good hint is to wear colours of a similar shade i.e. lighter colours look good against other lights and medium against medium etc.

No-no’s. Stay away from shirts that carry a message, chinos, scruffy shoes, caps and hats, un-ironed or dirty clothes and mismatched or clashing brights. Jeans can be appropriate in some office environments but stick with dark blue and be sure that they are a smart cut if they are allowed in yours.

Man bag. There are some fab men’s bags around so take the plunge and find one that you like. Structured styles look trendy and masculine and you’ll find owning one really handy.
